It seems every couple of months something is happening to a "minority" that gives us, the majority, a legitimate reason to rise up against the powers that be.
I can only hope by now, weeks after Trayvon Martin was MURDERED that you are all familiar with the story that has covered abc, msnbc, and every news station and website for the past 3 and a half weeks.
If not, Trayvon was a 17 year old Florida teen walking through his step-mothers gated community to go home after having walked to the store for a pack of skittles and a Arizona tea during the all-star game for his little brother. While walking home he was followed and shot in cold blood by 28 year old
You would ASSUME
To look at the two parties involved you automatically see another race driven act of violence, assuming Trayvon was a BLACK hoodlum in a hoodie, and
Lets go back to 9/11 .. Every ethnicity in america was against anyone who even LOOKED like they could be of middle eastern descent. Be they black, white, hispanic, asian, it did NOT matter. A fear of middle eastern people was instilled in them from the actions of a few. So you see, ANYONE can be racist, all it takes is a disdain for people of a certain culture, background, or look.
Was
Though Georges actions are appalling, I find that I am even more upset with the Sanford police departments treatment of the case. The investigation was not thoroughly conducted. Had it been the police would of known that he had been charged with assaulting an officer in 05, been reported by neighbors for taking his role as a Neighborhood watchmen too seriously, and had been accused of domestic violence by a former girlfriend. Had they investigated the 911 call he had made where he was told to NOT follow or the calls between Trayvon and his girlfriend at the time he was being followed they would of seen through his claim of “Self Defense”.
If they simply LOOKED at the stature of this svelte 17 year old BOY ON FOOT against this rotund 28 year old MAN IN A CAR. The pocket concealing candy vs the pocket carrying a loaded gun. Where was a need to defend himself?
This was simply a man making a decision to kill a child of a certain skin tone and attire that he had a hatred for.
I don’t care what Trayvon Martin was wearing or what color his skin was, passing discrimination based on looks alone is intolerable to me.
I understand stereo-types exist and they will continue to, so if someone wants to choose their friends, neighborhood, job, etc based upon what they FEEL is the way the type of people they want to surround themselves with should LOOK, so be it. But to kill someone off those assumptions that their skin tone and attire automatically places them into a stereo types category is OUT OF POCKET! Period!
